Allen & Overy hires partner Yvo de Vries to join global Antitrust practice

Allen & Overy has announced that Yvo de Vries will join its global Antitrust practice as a partner based in Amsterdam as of 1 September 2016.

Yvo de Vries joins Allen & Overy from Philips where he was a Senior Director for Antitrust. Yvo started his career at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and went on to head up the EU litigation department of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs focusing on European law where he represented the State of the Netherlands in dozens of proceedings before the Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

Ferdinand Grapperhaus, senior partner of the Amsterdam office, comments: “We are very pleased that Yvo has agreed to join our global Antitrust practice. The unique combination of his experience as a lawyer, a litigator in Luxembourg and an in-house counsel at Philips make him a huge asset to our practice.”

Kees Schillemans, head of the Amsterdam Antitrust practice added: “I look forward to further extending our leading position in the market along with Yvo and the talented group of lawyers in our practice. His addition to the team highlights our commitment to investing in the growth of our global Antitrust practice.”

Allen & Overy’s Dutch Competition practice covers the entire spectrum of competition and EU law. It is one of only a few firms in the Netherlands involved in all the main areas of competition law in the past few years on both a local and EU level.

The Amsterdam Competition practice has led pivotal and ground-breaking competition matters in the Netherlands across all key regulated sectors. It forms a critical component of the global Antitrust practice, which includes 25 partners and comprises over 100 specialist lawyers working collaboratively across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
