Greenberg Traurig Adds Paul Loeb as Partner

Real Estate Lawyer Paul Loeb is joining Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Amsterdam office as partner. Loeb was part of Shareholder David van Dijk’s team at NautaDutilh until 2020, when van Dijk joined Greenberg Traurig. Loeb now rejoins his old team, which also includes Barbara Klootwijk, Simone Wijngaard, and Coco van Zuiden.

Loeb has deep experience in Real Estate Litigation and is known for his role in numerous international art restitution proceedings, including the Crimean Gold case recently handled by the Supreme Court, and the restitution of works by Kandinsky (2022) and Malevich (2008). Loeb has served successively as a board member and president of the Society of Art, Culture and Law in the Netherlands.

“I am greatly looking forward to the transition to Greenberg Traurig. Many of my cases have a strong international character, and the international reach and enormous clout of a ‘global player’ like Greenberg Traurig bring a new dimension to my practice. I’m delighted to work with the old team again,” Loeb said.

“We are enormously pleased with Paul’s arrival,” van Dijk said. “The quality of professional services firms stands or falls with the quality of the people and the capacity to manage complex processes. This is only possible with a robust team with deep skill and experience, which Paul’s joining enhances at the firm.”

“The traditional leverage system with many trainees and a few experienced senior practitioners is decreasingly suitable for maintaining quality of service. The legal market is becoming increasingly competitive, and the playing field more complex and international. You have to adapt to that new reality. This requires more lawyers with ample experience. Paul fits that approach and meets that need perfectly.”

Amsterdam office Co-Managing Shareholder Thomas van der Vliet said, “The Amsterdam office has been experiencing strong growth at all levels for years. Earlier this year, Richelle Baptiste, Eva Herdé, Klootwijk, Alette Kroese, and Wijngaard joined. All of these new partners have a strong international profile. Paul’s arrival aligns with this strategy impeccably; he is a great asset to our international Real Estate and Dispute Resolution practices.”

“There is a pronounced trend toward smarter conflict resolution,” van Dijk added. “The typical legal route to civil court often is not suitable to help professional parties settle disputes. We are therefore already very active in alternative dispute resolution. Paul will also become an integral part of that team as a mediator.”
