Leading local cannabis attorney Travis Copenhaver joined national cannabis law firm Vicente Sederberg LLP as a partner this month as the firm significantly expands its service offerings across Michigan.
Copenhaver focuses his practice on cannabis business licensing, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. He advises new and existing medical and adult-use marijuana companies on initiating, developing, and expanding their presence in the Michigan cannabis market. He also provides consultation on brand development and trademark applications, clearance, maintenance, and enforcement.
Copenhaver is an inaugural member of the Cannabis Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He entered the cannabis law space in 2015 when he began working with a key author of the Michigan Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (PA 281 of 2016). He later served as a member of the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency’s Stakeholder Workgroup for Special Licenses.
“Travis’s experience with state cannabis legislation and working groups, along with his many connections with municipalities across the state, makes him a vital resource for clients.” said VS founding partner Brian Vicente. “With the legal cannabis market maturing in Michigan and the industry growing rapidly nationwide, there are a wealth of opportunities for new and existing businesses. Enforcement efforts are also ramping up, making it more critical than ever that companies secure specialized legal counsel to help them navigate constantly evolving regulations and licensing guidelines.”
Copenhaver received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He is a frequent presenter at legal seminars and other events, and he is a go-to source for reporters on a wide range of state and local cannabis policy matters.
