BakerHostetler announces that Brian McEvoy and Brian Rafferty have joined the firm as partners in its Atlanta office. They, together with an anticipated team of associates and counsel, will join the firm’s White Collar, Investigations and Securities Enforcement and Litigation team. Their arrival further deepens the firm’s strong Healthcare Industry team and Litigation Practice Group. They both arrive at BakerHostetler from Polsinelli PC in Atlanta.
McEvoy and Rafferty focus their national practices on defending corporate and individual clients in white collar criminal investigations, government and internal corporate investigations, and complex litigation matters. They have deep experience in health care fraud cases and the defense of health care providers and professionals.
McEvoy, an accomplished white collar criminal defense litigator, served as his prior firm’s Atlanta office managing partner and chair of that firm’s Government Investigations Group. McEvoy concentrates his individual practice on health care fraud cases and other federal economic criminal matters, as well as sophisticated business litigation and investigations.
From 2004 to 2009, before entering private practice, McEvoy was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, amassing extensive criminal trial experience in civil and criminal fraud, particularly in the health care industry. He received special commendation from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services in being awarded the Inspector General’s Integrity Award for his work as a federal prosecutor. He was named the district’s health care fraud coordinator in 2008 and started the district’s first health care fraud task force.
Similarly, Rafferty served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia for 11 years, including as chief of the criminal division. As a federal prosecutor, Rafferty received a variety of awards and commendations from the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the Department of Justice for his investigative and trial work.
Rafferty’s private practice spans many industries, with a particular focus on the health care, government contracting and financial industries. He specializes in the defense of business executives, health care professionals and corporate clients in white collar criminal investigations, prosecutions and enforcement proceedings. Rafferty also helps clients mitigate risk and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

McEvoy earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Boston College. He received his Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law and attended the International Law Program at William and Mary Law School. Rafferty earned his Bachelor of Arts from Lafayette College and his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School.
