Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Justin Heineman is joining the firm as a partner in Atlanta. Mr. Heineman will be a member of Kilpatrick Townsend’s Corporate Department in its nationally recognized Securities and Mergers & Acquisitions Practices. Mr. Heineman is coming to the firm from BlueLinx Holdings, a NYSE-listed building products distributor located in Atlanta, where he served as General Counsel and a member of the executive leadership team since 2018.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Heineman practiced with Kilpatrick Townsend for over 11 years, and was elevated to partner before leaving the firm to join the Legal Department of NCR Corporation in 2010. At NCR, Mr. Heineman served as Law Vice President and Chief Corporate Counsel, and had broad responsibility for NCR’s M&A, securities, and corporate governance matters around the world.
“Justin brings a unique skillset with over 22 years of experience handling sophisticated public securities, corporate finance, and M&A matters, including more than a decade of in-house experience advising senior executives and boards of directors on their most important legal matters,” said Ben Barkley, Kilpatrick Townsend Corporate Department Chair. “That kind of in-the-boardroom experience is of great value to clients and attorneys across the firm. We welcome Justin back to Kilpatrick Townsend.”
“I am looking forward to returning to Kilpatrick Townsend and I am honored to be part of such a strong team,” said Justin Heineman. “One of the key things I learned as an executive and in-house lawyer is that being able to view an issue or challenge from the perspective of a client is a critical component of service in the lawyer-client relationship. With its strong firm-wide commitment to client service and collaboration, Kilpatrick Townsend is the ideal platform for me to share this perspective. I am excited to join my new and old colleagues and get to work.”
Mr. Heineman will focus his practice on M&A, capital markets, external reporting, corporate governance, and general corporate matters. He is veteran of the firm’s 1997 Summer Associate Program – joining after his graduation from law school the following year. In 2007, he became partner with Kilpatrick Townsend’s securities and mergers & acquisitions practices. As a partner, Mr. Heineman handled a variety of public company securities matters for clients, as well as large acquisitions.
Mr. Heineman earned his J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law (Order of the Coif) and his B.A. from Duke University.
