King & Spalding announced today that public policy lawyer Pete Robinson is joining the firm as a partner in its Government Advocacy and Public Policy team. His practice will be based primarily in Atlanta and Washington. Robinson joins King & Spalding from Troutman Sanders LLP.
While at Troutman Sanders LLP, Robinson was the managing partner of its Atlanta office and the founding chairman of Troutman Sanders Strategies, building it into one of Georgia’s leading governmental affairs firms. Robinson specializes in strategic and governmental business consulting and has extensive experience in both elected and representative roles with the Georgia state legislature, serving 10 years in the Georgia General Assembly, ultimately serving as President Pro-Tem and the Senate Majority Leader. He is the only Senate President Pro-Tem to be nominated for that role by both the Republican and Democratic leaders of the Georgia Senate.
“Pete is widely recognized as one of Georgia’s leading government relations lawyers, advising a number of Fortune 500 companies on their most complex strategic and public policy matters,” said Robert D. Hays, Jr. chairman of King & Spalding. “We have known and worked with Pete for a long time and are delighted to welcome him to our firm.”
For the past eight years, Robinson served as chair of former Governor Nathan Deal’s Judicial Nominating Commission, responsible for reviewing state judiciary candidates and making recommendations to former Governor Deal to fill vacancies on all Georgia trial and appellate courts, including the Supreme Court. In this role, Robinson and the Commission assisted the former Governor in transforming the state’s judiciary, reviewing and recommending among others, six Supreme Court justices, 11 Court of Appeals judges and numerous trial judges.
“I am thrilled to join King & Spalding,” said Robinson. “The firm’s wide range of high quality practices and extraordinary lawyers are invaluable to its clients, many of which I already work with.”
“Pete is a problem-solver and brings deep expertise to issues that intersect government relations, regulatory policy and litigation strategy,” said Mark Jensen, managing partner of King & Spalding’s Washington office. “Pete is a natural leader and consummate team player. He will be an outstanding addition to the partnership.”
“Every K&S office works to be the destination of choice in its given city and we are excited that a lawyer of Pete’s caliber and reputation was drawn to King & Spalding,” said Josh Kamin, office managing partner of the Atlanta office. “Being able to provide Pete’s level of strategic public policy counsel is a boon for all – in particular our clients who are navigating the complex waters where Pete has vital insight.”
