Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome Steven H. Lee to its Atlanta office as a partner and vice chair of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice. Mr. Lee has served as a federal prosecutor for the last six years, representing the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in criminal matters involving healthcare fraud, national security violations, trade secret theft, and other economic crimes. Prior to his time at the DOJ, Mr. Lee worked as an assistant attorney general for the Georgia Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. His current practice focuses on government and internal corporate investigations, as well as white collar criminal defense, with an emphasis on healthcare fraud matters. In his role as practice vice chair, Mr. Lee will lead the Atlanta office’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense team.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Lee has tried over 30 jury trials, as first chair or co-chair, in cases involving healthcare fraud, trade secrets, wire fraud, and an array of financial crimes. He has led numerous investigations of both individuals and organizations with agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Medicaid Fraud Control Units. During his time as an assistant U.S. attorney, Mr. Lee served as the criminal Healthcare Fraud Coordinator, Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Coordinator, and National Cybersecurity Specialist.

“I am very happy to be with Lewis Brisbois and I look forward to contributing to the development of the firm’s government investigations practice in Atlanta,” Mr. Lee said. “The firm has numerous corporate clients, and with my vast prosecutor experience, I believe I can be an asset.”

Similarly, Fort Lauderdale Partner and Government Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice Co-Chair Sean P. Shecter noted, “Lewis Brisbois long-term goal is to build a best in class, highly regarded white collar practice that complements the firm’s expansive national network and platform. We are thrilled that Steven, with his impressive background as both a state and federal prosecutor, is now a part of our team. Based in Atlanta, he will take the lead in servicing clients throughout the United States and will play a key part in our growth strategy and the continued success of this practice.”

Atlanta Managing Partner R. Scott Masterson also commented, “We are excited to bolster our ability to service the ever-expanding needs of our clients in this state. We look forward to seeing the fruits of Steven’s leadership on that front here in Georgia and his addition to the team nationally.”

As vice chair, Mr. Lee will work closely with Mr. Shecter and the other co-chairs of the Government Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice – San Diego Partner Gary K. Brucker, Jr., Los Angeles Partner Craig Holden, and Washington, D.C. Managing Partner Jane C. Luxton – to further the goals of this growing, national team and its diverse client base.

Mr. Lee earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law and his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University, summa cum laude. He is admitted to practice in state and federal court in Georgia.
