Experienced life sciences patent litigation/IP strategy attorney Mike O’Shaughnessy is bringing his practice to Womble Bond Dickinson’s Atlanta office. He joins the firm as a Partner. He comes to Womble Bond Dickinson from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.
O’Shaughnessy guides pharmaceutical and biotech companies in IP disputes in which complex scientific issues are at stake, including high-stakes federal litigation, as well as in inter partes proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He has particular experience in Hatch-Waxman Act (ANDA) as well as the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA).
In addition, he has nearly 20 years of experience counseling life sciences companies in patent strategy, including portfolio management, monetization, licensing and patent prosecution. He has worked with clients in a number of life sciences fields and technologies, including antibodies, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, nutrition and medical devices.
“Mike has a proven track record of success as a patent litigator, and we are pleased to have him join our team,” said Chris Humphrey, the leader of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. “Our team already represents many pharmaceutical and biotech companies, including in ANDA litigation, so Mike’s addition bolsters an already strong life sciences patent litigation practice.”
O’Shaughnessy currently is based in the DC/Northern Virginia region, but will practice in Womble Bond Dickinson’s Atlanta office.
“It’s exciting to have an attorney with Mike’s credentials joining the firm, and we are particularly pleased he will practice here in Atlanta,” said Womble Bond Dickinson Atlanta Office Managing Partner Joel Pieper. “Patent litigation and prosecution have been key practices in this office for decades, and Mike is a tremendous addition to our office.”
In June, veteran IP litigation and transactions attorney Travis Iams also joined Womble Bond Dickinson.
