Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Neil Torpey has joined its Corporate Department in its New York and Austin offices as a partner. He joins the firm from Paul Hastings in New York and Hong Kong, where he served as senior partner for Asia and Chair of the firm’s Hong Kong office; and he previously served as Vice-Chair of the global Corporate Department and as a member of the Policy Committee, Recruiting Committee and Partnership Evaluation Committee.
Torpey has decades of experience representing public and private companies, banks and investment funds in connection with M&A, acquisition financings, securities offerings and private equity and venture capital transactions. He has had extensive experience structuring and executing transactions in the U.S., Asia, Latin America and Europe. His current practice is focused on representing private equity investors in transactions across a variety of industries, particularly in the digital infrastructure space, including fiber networks, data centers, telephone companies and cell towers.
“We are thrilled to welcome Neil to the firm,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “He is instrumental to the continuing growth of our corporate transactional work in the tech and digital infrastructure industries, as well as in private equity and M&A, in New York and on a global scale.”
“Neil is a strategic addition to our team,” said Samantha Crispin, Firmwide Chair of Baker Botts’ Corporate Department. “His deep client relationships and deep experience in private equity, venture capital and the technology industry are highly complementary to our strategic initiatives.”
Torpey earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School and a B.A. from Colgate University.
His arrival follows that of Arman Kuyumjian, who joined the Corporate Department in the New York office in October.
