Covington & Burling is pleased to announce the addition of Weishi Li as a partner to its corporate team, further bolstering the firm’s global transactional and IP capabilities in the life sciences and technology sectors. Ms. Li will be based in Shanghai when that office opens.
Ms. Li’s practice covers a wide range of technology transactions and IP-related advice. A native Mandarin speaker, she has significant experience representing multinational and Chinese companies in structuring and negotiating cross-border IP and technology-related transactions. Ms. Li has represented numerous companies in the life sciences sector, focusing on licensing, strategic alliances and joint venture arrangements.
Ms. Li’s arrival further enhances the firm’s capabilities to assist life sciences and technology clients with inbound and outbound transactions on a global basis, according to Timothy Hester, chair of the firm’s management committee.
“Weishi’s outstanding technical and legal credentials will make her a strong addition to our growing China practice,” Mr. Hester said. “When our Shanghai office opens, she will add her technology transactions expertise to our capital markets, M&A and securities practice there.”
Ms. Li said she was drawn to Covington because of its reputation for having one of the world’s top practices in life sciences.

In February 2012, Covington added a highly regarded five-lawyer corporate team to its Silicon Valley and Beijing offices. Eva Wang, who practices corporate and securities law, has been based in Beijing and will be resident in the Shanghai office with Ms. Li once that office opens.
Ms. Li earned a bachelor’s degree from Peking University, a law degree from Harvard Law School and a doctorate degree in microbiology from Columbia University.
