Akin is pleased to announce that Payson Lyman has joined the firm as a private capital partner in the firm’s Boston office. He joins from Kirkland & Ellis where he was a partner.
Lyman’s practice focuses on hybrid capital, preferred equity and other equity capital solutions and special situations transactions. He also advises private equity sponsors in complex domestic and cross-border business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, carve-outs, recapitalizations, and general corporate matters.
“The market for preferred equity and hybrid capital is rapidly growing, with clients across the private capital landscape deploying bespoke financing solutions in an increasingly competitive environment,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Payson is an exciting addition to our team. He adds significant depth to our practice, and his capabilities will be an invaluable resource for our clients in executing their most sophisticated transactions.”
Corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg added, “Payson is a talented dealmaker and a terrific addition to our growing private capital team, which is working with many of the market’s most active alternative investors. Payson brings a wealth of experience in these complex equity transactions and his arrival will bolster our bench strength. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining Akin, which has been a leader in building a dedicated preferred equity and hybrid capital practice. Akin’s premier private capital platform is an ideal setting for my clients and practice. I look forward to both reuniting with former colleagues Ranesh Ramanathan, Alex Cushman and Josh Peary and collaborating with new teammates at Akin,” said Lyman on his move.
This year, Akin has made significant additions across the firm’s corporate practice, including private credit partners Bill Brady and Scott Colton and real estate partner Avi Feinberg in New York; private equity partner Andrew Lehman, energy transactions partners Ian Goldberg and Trent Bridges and capital markets partner Bryan Flannery in Houston; and energy partner Rob Butler in London.
