Notable renewable energy transaction and finance attorney Justin Boose has joined the firm’s Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, offices and will be co-leader of the firm’s Renewable and Alternative Energy Team, alongside Partner Mark Kalpin in Boston. He joins with Partner Matthew Roberts in Holland & Knight’s Atlanta office. Mr. Boose and Mr. Roberts were formerly partners with Troutman Pepper.
Holland & Knight, which recently merged with Thompson & Knight, a well-known Texas-based firm and leader in the energy industry, is moving to integrate and strategically expand its energy industry resources to better assist clients involved in the global energy transition to carbon-free sources. This month, Law360 named Holland & Knight a 2021 “Energy Practice Group of the Year” based on the firm’s wide-ranging work in the industry.
Mr. Boose is well known in the energy industry for representing lenders, investors, private equity and infrastructure funds, developers, and regulated and nonregulated utilities on all types of transactions for renewable and traditional energy projects. His experience is heavily concentrated in solar, wind and energy storage projects, but also includes fuel cell, anaerobic digester, natural gas, liquefied natural gas, cogeneration, ethanol, biogas, biomass, waste-to-energy, water, carbon capture and mitigation, green hydrogen, electric vehicle charging, e-mobility and energy efficiency projects.
“Justin is a true leader in the area of sustainable energy solutions and has strong connections in this rapidly evolving sector,” said Stephen Dietrich, head of Holland & Knight’s corporate practice in the Central and West Region. “He’s participated in numerous industry-leading deals, not just for traditional and renewable energy projects, but also for cutting-edge technologies related to energy storage and transportation.”
“The arrival of Justin and Matt marks a significant step for Holland & Knight as we build on the success of our recent merger and become an even more formidable player in the energy industry,” said Tim Moran, co-chair of Holland & Knight’s Energy and Natural Resources Industry Sector Group. “Justin has 25 years of experience and is a respected thought leader in the area of renewables. We are thrilled that he and Matt will be rounding out our project development, finance and M&A capabilities on the West Coast.”
“Matt and I are fortunate to work with clients that are breaking new ground in the development and deployment of energy transition technologies,” said Mr. Boose. “The speed at which they are being developed and financed is breathtaking, and is the backbone of creating a sustainable energy transition.”
“We look forward to putting our experience to work for Holland & Knight clients and playing a key role in the firm’s ambitious growth plans,” he continued. “We sought out Holland & Knight because the firm has an industry-leading energy platform and is quickly becoming a go-to firm for companies leading the world’s energy transition.”
In addition to the Renewable Energy Team, Mr. Roberts will also be a member of Holland & Knight’s Financial Services Team. He practices in the areas of lending, structured finance and project finance, and has a broad range of experience in representing public and private clients in various transactions, including finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, public and private offerings, debt sale transactions, workouts and restructurings, letter of credit facilities and receivables finance transactions.
