IP/Patent Partner Jack Penny Joins Womble Bond Dickinson’s Boston Office

Veteran patent attorney Jack Penny is the latest IP partner to join Womble Bond Dickinson’s Boston office. He comes to Womble Bond Dickinson from Nutter McClennen & Fish, where he was group leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.

Penny provides clients with a wide range of patent-related services, including the development and management of strategic patent portfolios; patent prosecution; the preparation of opinions concerning infringement, validity, unenforceability and patentability; and patent litigation.

His clients include domestic, European, Korean and Japanese companies in the mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical fields. He has specific experience guiding clients in the printer/imaging technology, aircraft, heavy machinery, wireless tech, semiconductor, energy storage, manufacturing, automotive and medical device sectors.

“Jack has more than 20 years of patent experience, and companies depend on him for mission-critical strategic guidance,” said Jim Vaughan, Chair of Womble Bond Dickinson’s IP Department. “We are very pleased to have Jack join our growing Patent Team.”

Before law school, Penny designed attitude control systems as a control systems engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company. He also spent two years as an in-house patent counsel for Seiko Epson Corporation in Japan.

He joins a Womble Bond Dickinson Boston IP team that includes Office Managing Partner Sarah Keefe, as well as partners Cristin Cowles, Danielle Herritt and Deborah Vernon and their teams.

“We are building an outstanding team in Boston, and Jack is a welcome addition to the firm and our office. He has extensive tech sector expertise and I know he will do so well on our platform. He is highly respected in Boston’s legal and corporate communities and is just a great guy,” Keefe said.

Penny is a frequent speaker, writer and blogger on patent-related issues.
