The Boston office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added six new partners in the financial services litigation and antitrust practices. Led by Jeffrey S. Patterson and Christopher S. Finnerty, the team arrives at K&L Gates from the Boston office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP.
Patterson litigates claims on behalf of financial services institutions in matters at both the trial and appellate levels across the United States, also representing clients in the antitrust and intellectual property areas. He led the trial team that obtained the first contributory trademark infringement jury verdict against an SEO for its optimization of a website selling counterfeit products, and was a member of the executive committee at Nelson Mullins.
As antitrust and competition counsel, Finnerty leads a multidisciplinary team that advises clients in regards to global price maintenance, distribution, and gray market suppression strategies. He also counsels luxury brands on impact of Internet brand dilution and counterfeiting matters.
“We are delighted to welcome this highly talented team of lawyers to K&L Gates’ Boston office,” stated Mark E. Haddad, administrative partner of the Boston office of K&L Gates. “With practices that resonate in client markets important to this firm and its clients — the financial services industry and global corporations faced with strategic distribution and pricing challenges in the Internet age — our new partners will fortify and enhance our practices in profoundly important respects.”
Joining Patterson and Finnerty in the move to K&L Gates are fellow partners Morgan T. Nickerson, Sean R. Higgins, David E. Fialkow, and Michael R. Murphy, short bios for whom can be found below.
Patterson and Finnerty commented: “Combining our global distribution, antitrust, and financial services practice with the K&L Gates platform was a natural fit, enabling our team to draw on the depth of the firm’s experience and the breadth of the firm’s platform to service clients’ business needs on a global basis.”
With more than 50 litigators spanning three continents, K&L Gates’ financial services litigation teams successfully represent regional, national, and international clients of all types and sizes in financial services disputes, from defending consumer claims and class actions to complex international arbitrations in high-profile litigation or government investigations. Recently, BTI Consulting Group’s 2015 Litigation Outlook Survey ranked K&L Gates as a “Standout” law firm in the Securities and Finance Litigation and two others areas: Complex Commercial Litigation and Routine Commercial Litigation.
K&L Gates’ antitrust, competition, and trade regulation practice has a significant presence in the United States, the European Union, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region, with the firm’s lawyers having handled complex antitrust/competition law matters on every continent except Antarctica. The lawyers in the practice defend clients in some of the largest global cartel investigations, parallel civil cases, and class actions, in addition to obtaining regulatory clearance of multi-billion dollar transactions for Fortune 500 companies.
