The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Lisa M. Ropple has joined the Firm’s Boston Office as a partner in its Cybersecurity, Privacy, & Data Protection and Government Regulation practices.
Ms. Ropple comes to Jones Day from Staples, Inc., where she was Associate General Counsel and Vice President in charge of litigation and government investigations. In that role, she supervised the company’s response to data security incidents, directed strategy in regulatory investigations and litigation, and advised senior management on risk mitigation. Before joining Staples, Ms. Ropple was a litigation partner at Ropes & Gray, LLP, where she developed extensive experience in all aspects of data breach incident investigation and response, including overseeing forensic investigations of high profile breaches in the retail, financial services, and healthcare industries, and defending against ensuing state and federal regulatory investigations. At Jones Day, Ms. Ropple will continue to assist client companies in investigating and responding to data security incidents and addressing the wide range of legal challenges they can present.
“Anyone who knows Lisa understands that she is a fantastic attorney who is dedicated to her clients,” said Traci L. Lovitt, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Boston Office. “She has a broad base of skills and understands breach response both from the outside attorney’s viewpoint and from the client’s viewpoint, which will benefit Jones Day clients in Boston and around the world.”
In addition to her data security work, during her 22 years in private practice at Ropes & Gray, Ms. Ropple represented clients in a broad range of complex civil litigation in federal and state courts throughout the country and defended clients in government investigations and enforcement matters brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, the SEC, the FTC, state Attorneys General, and other federal and state regulatory authorities.
“We are very pleased to have Lisa join us in Boston,” said Daniel J. McLoon, who leads Jones Day’s global Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice. “She brings a great combination of experience—in litigation, in data security matters, and in government investigations—that our clients will appreciate, especially given the potential consequences in the event of a data breach or regulatory violation.”
Ms. Ropple was recognized with the 2016 “Leader in the Law” Award, by Lawyers Weekly, and is a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America.
