Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli welcomes tax credit finance attorney Jerome L. Garciano as a new Shareholder in the firm’s Boston office, the latest high-profile addition to the firm’s Tax Credit Practice, Real Estate Practice and Real Estate Finance Practice. New associate Shauni T. Lynch joins Garciano in making the move from Robinson & Cole LLP. Earlier this spring, Polsinelli announced the hiring of S. Shawn Whitney as the new leader of the Tax Credit Practice, with seasoned attorney Emily K. Wehr joining him in the Miami office.
“Jerome is an ideal fit as we continue to grow our Tax Credit Practice, helping serve our real estate and finance clients who develop, invest in and provide financing for tax credit structured developments,” said Kraig M. Kohring, chair of the Real Estate and Financial Services Department. “Clients will benefit greatly as Jerome and Shauni add their combined strengths to what Shawn is building to support our experts in real estate and real estate finance.”
Garciano focuses his practice on tax incentives and tax credit debt and equity financing. He counsels clients on all federal and state tax incentives and tax credits related to low-income housing, historic status, energy investment and new markets. Garciano has assisted with numerous nonprofit-sponsored real estate transactions financed with New Markets Tax Credit financing, including education, health and community services facilities. He is a LEED accredited professional and works on utilizing energy efficiency and renewable energy tax for clients as well as tax policy initiatives promoting green energy and real estate development.
“Polsinelli offers the perfect combination of so many factors – getting to work with esteemed leaders like Shawn and Kraig, partnering with nationally thriving teams in real estate and real estate finance while also playing a pivotal role in growing the Tax Credit Practice,” said Garciano. “This is absolutely the right team – and the right time – for Shauni and me to join.”
Polsinelli’s Tax Credit Practice has been catalyzed by the collective strength of the firm’s national Real Estate and Real Estate Finance practices and its Opportunity Zones group, which is led by Korb Maxwell. As one of the first Opportunity Zones groups formed in the country, under Maxwell’s leadership, Polsinelli has more than 30 attorneys dedicated to the practice. The team has closed deals valued at more than $1.5 billion.
In addition to Garciano’s tax credit practice, he also has significant experience with matters involving real estate development and finance, affordable housing and community development lending and renewable energy and green building. Garciano earned his bachelor’s degree at Cornell University, a master’s in Public Policy at Harvard University and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.
Lynch has a successful track record representing lenders in commercial lending transactions for all mortgage asset classes, including affordable housing projects. She assists clients in structuring and documenting mortgage loans and real estate transactions, and reviews title, survey, and due diligence materials. Lynch earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida before also obtaining her J.D. at Suffolk University Law School.
