Sidley Austin LLP Continues Expansion of Energy Practice With New Partner in Boston

Sidley Austin LLP announced today that Terence T. Healey has joined the firm’s growing Energy practice as a partner in its Boston office. His arrival follows closely that of energy partners Karen A. Dewis, Kenneth W. Irvin and Daryl L. Rice in Washington, D.C., and Robert Stephens in Houston.

Mr. Healey is an experienced advisor on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) matters involving electricity and natural gas. He focuses his practice on federal and state energy regulatory proceedings, energy-related transactions, FERC anti-manipulation enforcement matters, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) enforcement matters and compliance counseling. He has extensive experience representing clients before FERC on matters relating to the wholesale power and natural gas markets, including the formation and redesign of wholesale electricity markets, capacity market developments and merger proceedings.

“Terence’s broad experience advising energy clients on a range of transactions and regulatory issues will further strengthen our energy capabilities here in Washington and globally,” said Mark Hopson, managing partner of Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office and member of the firm’s Management Committee. “Terence is the latest addition to our extraordinary team of energy lawyers, and we look forward to collaborating with him to serve our clients.”

Mr. Healey also counsels clients on regional transmission tariffs, power purchase and sale agreements, interregional coordination issues, congestion management and the design and operation of wholesale markets for energy, capacity and ancillary services. In addition, he advises domestic and international financial institutions, hedge funds and lenders on a variety of Public Utility Holding Company Act issues, the restructuring of debt and equity in distressed generation companies, and investment in renewable energy facilities.

“Terence’s experience and knowledge of best practices in FERC regulatory proceedings and enforcement investigations will greatly benefit our clients navigating these complex issues,” said Gene Elrod, co-global leader of the firm’s Energy practice. “Terence will be a core member of our energy team and will also work closely with our enforcement and litigation practices on issues related to FERC investigations.”

Mr. Healey previously practiced at an international law firm, focusing on regulatory and commercial issues in the areas of energy and public utility law. Earlier in his career he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable George O’Toole of the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts, and as an intern for the Honorable Walter J. Skinner of the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts.
