Sidley Welcomes Venture Funds Partner Mathew Eapen to Boston Office

Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Mathew Eapen has joined the Boston office as a partner in the firm’s Investment Funds practice. Prior to joining Sidley, Mr. Eapen was an Investment Funds partner at Kirkland & Ellis.

Mr. Eapen’s practice focuses on advising private investment funds, particularly venture capital, growth equity, and technology- and healthcare-focused funds, and emerging companies on all aspects of their business, including capital raising, investment activity, and other operational and transactional matters. He also represents alternative asset managers in strategic investments and M&A, joint ventures, fund restructurings and continuation funds, and other complex transactions.

“Mat leads complex transactions involving some of the most sophisticated sponsors, and he has developed deep connections with his clients,” said Michael Schmidtberger, Sidley’s Executive Committee Chair. “His venture and growth equity fund clients will benefit from Sidley’s capabilities in financing, investment, and portfolio company work, as well as digital health and healthcare, life sciences, energy, and fintech regulatory work. We will continue to invest in our premier funds practice in 2025.”

“The Boston market is a key priority area for Sidley, and Mat will help bolster our funds and life sciences practices here,” said Liz Fries, managing partner of the Boston office, global leader of the firm’s Investment Funds practice, and a member of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “Mat will work closely with Shane Goudey as they serve emerging companies and VCs and help expand the venture and growth equity sector of our Investment Funds Group on both the East and West Coasts.”
