Mues, who is based in Dubai, has extensive experience of advising clients on M&A, private equity, venture capital, funds, capital markets, commercial contracts, employment and corporate restructuring. Joining from K&L Gates, Mues has been based in the Middle East for over ten years and previously worked extensively across the UK. She has advised a broad range of local and international clients across numerous jurisdictions and a variety of industries.
The news highlights Reed Smith’s continued expansion across its global network – on 16 January 2020, the firm opened a new European office with five Global Corporate Group partners consisting of Christian Filippitsch from Norton Rose Fulbright, Isabelle Rahman from Sheppard Mullin, Geert Goeteyn from Shearman & Sterling, Yves Melin from Steptoe & Johnson and Wim Vandenberghe from Deloitte Legal. They were also joined by one counsel and two associates.
Delphine Currie, co-chair of Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group, said: “I am delighted to welcome Adela to the firm especially at such an exciting time of growth across Europe and the Middle East. Adela’s broad transactional and regulatory experience across a number of jurisdictions makes her a great fit for the team and her addition to the group will greatly benefit our clients.”
Sachin Kerur, office managing partner of the firm’s Middle East offices, said: “Adela brings extensive knowledge of complex transactions in both domestic and international markets. Her private equity, M&A and corporate restructuring experience will enhance our corporate offering and benefit our clients in the Middle East and across our global platform.”
Mues, who speaks English, French and Romanian, commented: “I’m greatly looking forward to joining Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group and building my practice further.”
Starting her law career as a Romanian lawyer in the Romanian office of Taylor Joynson Garrett, now Taylor Wessing, Mues then moved to London in 2001 to continue assisting the firm and, following such move, she completed a training contract and qualified as a solicitor. After a few years in the corporate team of Taylor Wessing as an associate, she went on secondment to the Dubai office before transferring permanently to the Dubai offices in 2009, until making the move to K&L Gates in 2015.
Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group covers all aspects of corporate and commercial law and spans the firm’s 30 offices. The EME corporate practice has undergone significant growth over the past few years with the arrival of: a 50-strong multijurisdictional team from King & Wood Mallesons specialising in corporate, M&A, private equity, capital markets and tax at the start of 2017; a tax team from Winston & Strawn in Paris later that year; and the addition of Florian Hirschmann in Munich in 2018. More recently, life sciences transactional partner Iqbal Hussain joined in London in September 2019, Martin Bünning joined in Frankfurt in December 2019, and Sam Webster joined in London in January 2020.
