DLA Piper Announces Agreement with Argentine firm Cabanellas Etchebarne Kelly

DLA Piper LLP (US) announced today that it has established an agreement with Argentine firm Cabanellas Etchebarne Kelly (CEK). CEK will operate as DLA Piper in Argentina.

CEK, based in Buenos Aires and with offices in Mendoza, Argentina, and New York City, is a multidisciplinary firm working across a wide range of industries, and has participated in several of the landmark legal matters that have taken place in Argentina over the last three decades. The agreement provides DLA Piper with a firm partner with extensive knowledge in the practice areas of M&A and capital markets, foreign investments and cross-border transactions, banking and regulatory work, project finance, debt restructuring, arbitration and litigation, and employment, as well as corporate misconduct and internal investigations, infrastructure, and renewable energy and electricity.

“Cabanellas Etchebarne Kelly’s lawyers have deep and wide-ranging experience in crucial practice areas, and the firm has established an excellent reputation, particularly in the region,” said Roger Meltzer, DLA Piper’s global co-chairman and co-chairman of the Americas. “As we continue to develop our presence in Latin America based on the needs of our clients in the region and across the globe, this partnership will be an important component of our global capabilities and will ensure we are ideally positioned to address the growing demand for comprehensive cross-border guidance.”

The agreement with CEK follows DLA Piper’s announcement of a similar agreement with Pizarro, Botto & Escobar Abogados in Peru in March 2017. Prior to that, the firm announced its agreement with Bahamondez, Alvarez & Zegers in Chile, which later merged with another local firm, Noguera, Larrain & Dulanto; the opening of an office in San Juan, Puerto Rico; an agreement with Martinez Beltran in Colombia; and the establishment of DLA Piper Gallastegui y Lozano in Mexico. The firm also has a cooperation agreement with Campos Mello in Brazil.

“Under this arrangement, we will be able to provide local companies with a world-class international platform to satisfy their legal needs, particularly as they relate to regional and international expansion,” said Marcelo Etchebarne, co-founder of CEK and head of the firm’s New York office. “DLA Piper has expanded its commitment to Latin America significantly over the past several years, and we are thrilled to come together with them during a time when the market in Argentina is rapidly growing and opportunities in a number of industries are increasing.”
