McDermott Will & Emery announced today that employee benefits and executive compensation lawyer Erin Kartheiser has joined the Firm as a partner in its Chicago office.
Ms. Kartheiser’s arrival brings an added dimension to McDermott’s Health & Welfare Benefits and Qualified Plan practices. In addition, she advises public and private companies on the full spectrum of employee benefit matters, including retirement plans, executive compensation and ERISA litigation.
She also frequently represents companies in negotiations with third-party administrators, trustees, recordkeepers, and outside vendors.
Ms. Kartheiser joins McDermott from the Chicago office of another AmLaw 50 law firm, where she was a partner.
“Erin is a versatile, multifaceted benefits lawyer who strengthens our leading benefits and compensation capabilities nationally,” said David Rogers, head of McDermott’s Employee Benefits, Compensation, Labor & Employment practice. “As those who practice in this field know well, employee benefits matters are increasingly complex. The myriad of changes in law and regulatory guidance coming from the SEC, IRS, ERISA and other areas have added multiple complications to benefits matters. Fortunately, Erin has a strong command of the field. She will provide excellent counsel to our clients seeking to fortify their benefits and compensation practices and procedures.”
“Top-quality benefits counsel requires highly sophisticated experience on a wide variety of matters, whether in the area of executive compensation, retirement benefits, health and welfare benefits, and dealing with benefits issues resulting from corporate acquisition and divestiture activity,” added Todd Solomon, co-chair of McDermott’s International Benefits Affinity Group. “Erin brings a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and compensation landscape, including extensive experience counseling companies with respect to their relationships with their benefits service providers and consultants. She is an extremely valuable addition to our practice.”
Ms. Kartheiser earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law, where she was a Notes and Comments editor of the University of Illinois Law Review. She earned a B.S. from Northern Illinois University. Before attending law school, she was a registered nurse, specializing in cardiac telemetry.
McDermott’s Employee Benefits, Compensation, Labor & Employment practice operates globally, with the geographic coverage and deep resources necessary to serve clients at every level: internationally, nationally, regionally and locally. The team has deep industry experience and represents employers in virtually every sector, including manufacturing, financial services, health care, education and construction.
