Andrew Douglass Joins Reed Smiths Global Corporate Group in Chicago

Global law firm Reed Smith today announced that Andrew Douglass has joined the firm as a partner in its Global Corporate Group in Chicago. Douglass was previously a partner at Polsinelli, where he chaired its Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group.

“Virtually every transaction has employee benefit and executive compensation issues associated with it. Andrew’s extensive experience representing domestic and multi-national clients on sophisticated benefits and executive compensation matters is a perfect fit for our transactional practice,” said Matthew J. Petersen, leader of Reed Smith’s U.S. Corporate Group.

A 2000 graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, Andrew counsels both public and private companies on their qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and other employee benefit arrangements. He also regularly advises clients on complex benefits and executive compensation issues for their mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, financings, and other business transactions.

“Reed Smith’s global platform is an exceptional fit for my clients and provides a larger scale and enhanced opportunities to develop my practice,” said Douglass.

Prior to joining Polsinelli, Douglass was a partner at Seyfarth Shaw. His previous work background also includes experience as an actuarial consultant in the employee benefits practice of a large public accounting firm. In addition, Douglass is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and frequently writes articles and makes presentations on employee benefits and executive compensation issues for professional audiences. As a result, he brings a multi-faceted and practical approach to helping clients address the legal, financial, and administrative issues under their employee benefit arrangements.

For years Douglass has worked closely with Michele Gehrke, a longtime colleague at Polsinelli who recently joined Reed Smith’s Labor & Employment Practice in San Francisco. The ability to work with Michele again and continue serving shared clients was among the factors that brought Douglass to Reed Smith.

“Andrew’s creative and practical approach to addressing clients’ needs is in great demand,” said Michael A. LoVallo, Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Chicago office. “He will be a great resource for our attorneys as well as for clients seeking to develop employee benefit and executive compensation programs aligned with their business goals.”
