Cheryl Yakey Joins Wilson Elser’s Chicago Office as a Partner

National law firm Wilson Elser announced today that Cheryl Yakey has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner.

A 30-year veteran of the insurance legal and regulatory industry, Yakey counsels insurance companies experiencing regulatory compliance issues in existing and emerging laws and regulations and helps organizations successfully negotiate transactions and draft deal contracts.

Yakey advocates before state governments to pass new legislation, provides insight to industry trade groups on key legislative issues and speaks at industry events on topical subjects.

Most recently, Yakey was senior regulatory counsel at Kemper Corporation and before that worked in senior in-house counsel positions at Genworth Financial and AIG. She also served on the Chicago Foundation for Women’s Grantmaking Review and Site Visit Committee, and is a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago.

“Cheryl is a strong addition to our highly respected Insurance & Reinsurance Coverage practice,” said David Holmes, regional managing partner of the Chicago office. “The perspective she brings having worked as in-house counsel for many years and her ability to affect change through the legislative process will add tremendous value to our clients and to the firm.”

Yakey graduated with her B.A. degree from Hamilton College (1983) and earned her J.D. degree with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law (1990), where she was a member of the Law Review and helped establish the Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems law journal.
