Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today the arrival of partner Charles “Chuck” Chejfec to the Litigation department in Chicago. He joins from Chicago-based Actuate Law LLC, where he was a founding partner. Chejfec returns to Seyfarth, where he started his private practice as a Litigation associate for six years in the Chicago office.
For the last 15 years, Chejfec has focused his practice representing both government and private insurers victimized by large healthcare fraud schemes. An experienced litigator, he has successfully tried to verdict and arbitrated claims involving kickbacks, medically unnecessary services, self-referrals, and licensure violations. While providing general counseling services to his clients, Chejfec also handles fraudulent insurance claims.
“Chuck is a terrific litigator and his healthcare practice will flourish on the firm’s national platform,” said James McGrath, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation department. “As we strategically grow our existing capabilities in the healthcare and insurance fraud areas, Chuck is an impactful addition for the firm.”
In addition to his healthcare fraud practice, Chejfec has advised clients in matters involving intellectual property, fiduciary duty, contract, tax, non-compete, class action, and bankruptcy-related matters. He has also litigated multiple cases in federal and state courts as a municipal prosecutor and criminal defense lawyer. Notably, Chejfec also represents owners, teams, and drivers in the Indycar Series, International Motor Sports Association, and National Hot Rod Association in both litigation and transactional matters.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chuck back to his Seyfarth roots. With his arrival, the firm has added another seasoned litigator to its talented bench in Chicago,” said Amanda Sonneborn, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Chicago office.
“Chuck is highly-regarded by all those who have worked with him and our team is excited to see Chuck grow his dynamic practice back here at Seyfarth,” said Cory Hirsch, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Chicago office.
Earlier in his legal career, Chejfec served as a law clerk to Nevada Supreme Court Justice, Clifton Young, followed by a clerkship with Charles Norgle, a Federal District Court Judge in Chicago. He earned his J.D. from John Marshall Law School, where he served on the Editorial Board of the John Marshall Journal of Computer & Information Law. Chejfec received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
