Dinsmore & Shohl LLP welcomes Daniel R. Flynn to the firm’s Chicago office. Flynn, a litigator focusing on environmental issues, brings decades of experience and enhances the services offered in Chicago. Prior to joining Dinsmore, Flynn practiced at Leech Tishman as well as Seyfarth Shaw.
“Dan is not only a great addition to the Chicago office, but to the firm as well. His presence further rounds out our litigation presence here in Chicago and changes the complexion of our firm’s environmental law and workplace safety practices. Dan’s deep knowledge of environmental and OSHA issues allows him to represent an impressive array of companies ranging from the middle market to the Fortune 50,” said Robert “Bobby” Lucas, Chicago Office Managing Partner. “Dan’s personality makes him a natural fit for the Chicago office, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of the Dinsmore team.”
Flynn focuses much of his practice on environmental, health and safety issues. He has represented companies across general industry and construction with matters involving the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), ensuring clients minimize liability from OSHA enforcement actions by counseling clients on proper compliance with all OSHA standards and on proper inspection management techniques. If citations are issued, he helps clients develop and evaluate settlement options during the informal conference period. If an early settlement isn’t in the client’s best interest, he represents them throughout the resulting litigation before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission or equivalent state tribunal.
Flynn is also experienced counseling clients on compliance with various state and federal environmental laws and regulations, including the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). He has responded to notices of violations, assisted with applying for, renewing and appealing permits, represented companies in civil litigation matters and cost recovery actions, counseled and assisted companies with environmental aspects of real estate transactions, and assisted clients responding to government requests regarding hazardous substance release under EPCRA and CERCLA.
“I am excited to join a distinguished firm that has a substantial breadth and depth of legal expertise. Working with excellent lawyers not only allows me to offer more comprehensive legal services to my clients, but also makes going to work more enjoyable. I look forward to contributing to Dinsmore’s already outstanding Chicago office and environmental and workplace safety groups,” said Flynn.
Flynn earned his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law where he graduated cum laude. He received his B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University.
