J. Tyson “Ty” Covey has joined Duane Morris LLP as a partner in the firm’s Trial Practice Group in its Chicago office. Prior to joining Duane Morris, Covey was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP.

Covey’s practice focuses primarily on telecommunications regulation and related litigation. As regulatory and appellate counsel for a large telecommunications carrier, he has provided authoritative legal guidance on many issues relating to the Telecommunications Act of 1996 as well as state law, including proceedings in 26 different state commissions and several state and federal courts. Covey’s cases have involved a wide variety of issues on topics like deregulation, preemption, interconnection, pricing and intercarrier compensation. He has been included in Chambers USA for communications law every year since 2003, and in 2016 was recognized by Best Lawyers in America as “Lawyer of the Year” for Chicago in Administrative/Regulatory Law.
Covey is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, 1991) and Augustana College (B.A., magna cum laude, 1987).
