Marc Cavan has joined Baker & McKenzie’s North American Intellectual Property Practice as a partner in Chicago, bringing more than 15 years of experience in life sciences IP litigation.
Mr. Cavan focuses his practice on patent litigation across a range of technologies. He has handled significant life sciences patent litigation involving cardiovascular stents, minimally invasive medical devices and surgical implants, as well as pharmaceuticals relating to anesthesia and the treatment of asthma and cancer. He also has experience litigating patent cases and intellectual property disputes involving electronic health records, mobile devices, web browser technology, nanotechnology, and software.

Mr. Cavan has handled patent cases in federal district courts throughout the United States. His experience includes jury trials, abbreviated new drug application litigation, post-grant challenges before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and appeals before the Federal Circuit. He has also advised on intellectual property matters in significant life science mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Cavan is ranked as a leading patent litigator by Chambers USA and International Asset Management 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.

Mr. Cavan is the latest in a series of prominent lateral hires to join the Firm in Chicago. In recent months, experienced corporate finance attorney Jai Khanna joined, as well as leading real estate attorney Michael Rechtin and employment litigator Arthur Rooney.
Mr. Cavan received his B.S. from Duke University, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He joins the Firm from Ropes & Gray LLP.
