DLA Piper announced today that John Lyons has joined the firm’s Restructuring practice as a partner in the Chicago office. With over twenty years of restructuring experience, Lyons has represented major US and international corporations, committees, lenders and boards of directors in complex business reorganizations, acquisitions and divestitures. He played key roles in several industry transformative restructurings including, among others, American Airlines, Delphi Corporation, US Airways, Exodus Communications, and VeraSun Energy. He has increasingly represented clients in cross border restructurings and conducted several fraud investigations and asset recovery actions.
“John is a highly regarded bankruptcy lawyer, with a proven track record in the US and internationally,” said Richard Chesley US co-chair of the firm’s Restructuring practice. “John will be a tremendous asset to the firm and our clients and will further strengthen DLA Piper’s premier global footprint.”
Lyons joins DLA Piper from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP where he was a partner in the firm’s Corporate Restructuring group. In addition to his practice, Lyons is involved in the community, and serves as a director and vice president of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center and co-chairs the annual fundraiser for the Sunshine through Golf Foundation.
“John has become well known in the Chicago community and in the global restructuring industry over the past 25 years, and has formed extensive relationships with corporate and private equity clients that will be invaluable to the firm,” said David Mendelsohn, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Chicago office. “Our firm continues to grow in Chicago, and the addition of John bolsters our strategy of hiring sophisticated and deeply experienced attorneys in areas of practice that are important to our clients.”
Lyons has been repeatedly listed as a “leader” in the corporate restructuring field in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and The Best Lawyers in America. He was selected as a “leading lawyer” for commercial bankruptcy and workout law by the Leading Lawyers Network.
Lyons earned his J.D., cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law, and his B.S. from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.
