Kathleen Swan has joined Locke Lord’s Chicago office as a Partner in the Firm’s Private Equity & Venture Capital Practice Group. Swan’s vast venture capital knowledge and experience will help strengthen the Firm’s Private Equity & Venture Capital Practice Group.
“Kathleen’s arrival adds bench strength to our already impressive roster of private equity and venture capital lawyers in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Providence and West Palm Beach,” said John Eisel, Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Private Equity & Venture Capital Practice Group, who also is based in Chicago. “Kathleen is well known and respected for her venture capital work, and she will play a key role advising our current and prospective clients on their complex deals and matters in the private equity and venture capital space. Swan joins the Firm from Quarles & Brady, where she was co-chair of the corporate venturing group. She focuses her practice on venture capital, corporate venturing and corporate finance. Swan has represented venture capitalists, angel investors and entrepreneurs in connection with the issuance and sale of convertible notes, common stock and preferred stock; corporations in connection with strategic partnerships and investments in emerging growth companies; and institutional investors in connection with the purchase of senior and subordinated secured and unsecured notes.

In addition to her work in venture capital, Swan is a Fellow of the American College of Investment Counsel and serves on the Education Committee. She also is on the Membership Committee of the Economic Club. Swan is active on entrepreneurship issues and participates in the New Venture Challenge, the Global New Venture Challenge and the Social New Venture Challenge at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and has been active with both Hyde Park Angels and Irish Angels. She has also served as a member of the University of Texas System’s Entrepreneurship Network Evaluation Committee. Elected on multiple occasions to the Illinois Leading Lawyers Network and as a Super Lawyer in Securities and Venture Capital, she was recently honored with the Chairman’s Award from Chicago United.
