Lathrop Gage LLP is pleased to welcome Laura Labeots, Ph.D., the newest Partner to join the Intellectual Property team in the firm’s growing Chicago office. Laura brings a wealth of enthusiasm and experience to the IP group, as she has been helping companies develop and defend their IP portfolios for almost 25 years. Prior to joining Lathrop Gage LLP, Laura served as a partner at Husch Blackwell LLP in Chicago.
Her practice focuses on chemistry and biotechnology, stemming from her Ph.D.in Organic Chemistry from Northwestern University and her Research Faculty position in the Biochemistry Department at The University of Chicago. She advises companies about world-wide patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, opinion work (freedom-to-operate, patentability, invalidity, and infringement analyses), due diligence, licensing, trade secrets, and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Laura is currently co-chair of the Biotech Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago and is actively engaged in the Chicago start-up ecosystem. She was associated with several prestigious Chicago firms before joining Lathrop Gage. She worked for more than 10 years as a Research Scientist in industry prior to her legal career.
Laura received her J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago where she was a Staff Editor of the Review of Intellectual Property Law. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Organic Chemistry from Northwestern University and later received a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Chicago. She obtained a B.A. in Chemistry from Indiana University.
