Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce the addition of leading corporate attorney Richard E. (Rick) Ginsberg as a partner in the firm’s Chicago office, as Chair of its Technology and Emerging Companies practice, and member of its Private Investment Funds practice. Rick rejoins Winston from DLA Piper, where he was Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Fund Formation and Operations Practice Group and a member of the firm’s Emerging Companies/Venture Capital National Leadership Group. Previously he was a Winston partner from 2005-2007.
This most recent high-profile hire underscores Winston’s commitment to aggressively expanding its transactional practice, particularly in the emerging company and venture capital areas, and to broadening its reach in the technology sector.
Rick is well-known in the Chicago area for advising start-up and emerging growth companies through all stages of the investment lifecycle. Based on the strength of Rick’s work with numerous Illinois-based tech firms, in 2017 Crain’s Chicago Business named him (as the only law firm attorney) to its list of the 50 most influential people in Chicago’s technology industry.
“We are pleased to welcome Ricky back to Winston,” said Chairman Tom Fitzgerald. “Winston is committed to significant growth in the areas of technology and venture capital, and Rick puts us in an ideal position to both take advantage of opportunities in that sector and provide leadership in our expansion efforts.”
Rick is also a recognized leader in fund formation. He regularly advises private equity and venture fund sponsors in connection with capital raising from public and private pension funds, foundations, endowments, and high-net-worth individuals. He also represents institutional investors and family offices, and has extensive knowledge of a wide range of fund products.
“Rick’s practice and client base are a natural fit for our platform” said Dominick DeChiara, chair of Winston’s Corporate Department. “He is a respected dealmaker and his skills and experience augment our existing funds practice, as well as related areas that are paramount to our strategic growth goals.”
“I am excited to rejoin Winston which has been a critical partner in the growth and development of Chicago’s most important and successful businesses,” commented Ginsberg. “My fund formation, venture, and PE clients will benefit from the depth and breadth of Winston’s team, and I look forward to building a global emerging companies practice that will be a sector leader.”
