Lee Morlock Joins Kirkland & Ellis as Tax Partner in Chicago

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Lee Morlock has joined the Firm as a partner in the Tax Practice Group in the Chicago office. He was previously a partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown.

“Lee is a stellar tax lawyer and a great addition to our strong tax practice,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “Lee’s breadth of experience will be a benefit to our clients who face increasingly complex tax issues.”

Mr. Morlock focuses his practice on international tax planning and tax issues associated with transactional matters. He counsels major corporations and private equity sponsors on cross-border operations and financing activities, including acquisitions, divestitures and strategic restructuring transactions. He also has experience representing fund sponsors and investors in structuring crossborder real estate, infrastructure and private equity investments.

“Lee has had a strategic role on many significant deals, and is considered an up-and-coming tax lawyer with the ability to successfully counsel companies on domestic and cross-border tax structures within complex transactions. His experience is a perfect fit for our practice,” said Todd Maynes, a tax partner in Kirkland’s Chicago office.

Mr. Morlock has represented such clients as Yum! Brands, Wells Fargo, Nestle, Altice and Dow Chemical.

He earned his BCom from McGill University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude. In July, he was named a “Rising Star” in tax by Law360. With the addition of Mr. Morlock, Kirkland has nine attorneys recognized as Law360 Rising Stars this year, more than any other law firm.
