Lewis Brisbois’ Chicago office has enhanced its Labor & Employment Practice by securing Stephen L. Sitley to assist with labor and employment matters as a partner. After serving Sears as Senior Vice-President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer for more than two decades, Mr. Sitley brings expertise from the Fortune 500 company’s legal department, with a specialty focus in employment law, labor relations, corporate governance, due diligence, and complex litigation.
“Steve’s deep understanding of all aspects of employment law and complex litigation from the client’s perspective will be an invaluable asset to our clients and team,” said Partner Mary A. Smigielski, who leads the firm’s Chicago Labor & Employment Practice.
A skilled negotiator and corporate strategist, Mr. Sitley also managed multimillion-dollar budgets as a vice president in Sears’ human resources department. He received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and his undergraduate degree from Boston College in political science. Mr. Sitley is admitted to practice in Illinois, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia.
“Lewis Brisbois manages an outstanding, business-focused labor and employment team, which is why I wanted to apply my experience here,” said Mr. Sitley. “I’m looking forward to working on cutting-edge employment and litigation matters, particularly within the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act Practice in Chicago.”
Lewis Brisbois launched its Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) Practice earlier in 2019 to handle the anticipated increase in data privacy suits against employers in the wake of the Illinois Supreme Court decision in Rosenbach v. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Ms. Smigielski and fellow Chicago Partner Josh M. Kantrow lead the firm’s BIPA Practice.
“I’m looking forward to my colleagues in Chicago and across the firm seeing what a great leader and team builder Steve is,” added Ms. Smigielski, who previously worked with Mr. Sitley at Sears.
