Morgan Lewis today welcomes employee benefits partner Daniel R. Salemi, who assists clients throughout the United States in virtually all economic sectors. Mr. Salemi, who arrives from a Chicago labor and employment law firm, will be resident in Morgan Lewis’s Chicago office.
Mr. Salemi co-chaired the employee benefits practice at his former firm. He represents employers and plan sponsors, including corporations, governmental employers, and educational and nonprofit organizations. He helps clients design and maintain retirement and health and welfare plans (such as multiemployer plans, among others) and executive compensation plans and programs. He advises on compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Internal Revenue Code, and state and local law, as well as issues relating to plan investments, day-to-day administration, and funding and plan modification and termination. He also will work closely with the firm’s broader labor and employment practice.
“Dan is an ideal fit for both our highly respected employee benefits and labor practices, and our clients will find in him a trusted adviser whose work has involved virtually all aspects of designing and maintaining benefit plans,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “His presence will broaden our strength in this critical area for clients.”
Mr. Salemi also provides counsel on employee benefits issues in collective bargaining, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions. He has spoken and written extensively about employee benefit plan compliance matters.
“Dan is precisely the kind of versatile partner clients are seeking, someone who has worked with clients throughout the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to develop benefit plans and to defend them when needed,” said Steven Spencer, the leader of Morgan Lewis’s employee benefits practice. “Clients also will benefit from his comprehensive thought leadership on plan compliance.”
