Nixon Peabody is growing in Chicago. We’re pleased to announce the arrival of new partner Michelle Canerday. Michelle, who joins the 100+ attorney Chicago office, will be a member of the firm’s national private clients practice.
Michelle counsels individuals, high-net-worth families and closely held businesses across the globe on sophisticated estate, gift and charitable planning matters. Her practice includes structuring and drafting wills and trusts, handling estate administration matters, representing trustees in trust disputes and litigation matters, advising businesses on succession planning, working with private equity fund principals on tax minimization strategies, counseling family offices, and forming and advising nonprofit organizations. Michelle prides herself on understanding each client’s individual goals and objectives and implementing innovative strategies and solutions to meet their needs.
“Michelle’s in-depth knowledge and sophisticated level of experience will provide a tremendous benefit in helping our clients achieve their wealth management goals,” said Thomas M. Fahey, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Chicago office. “There are many synergies with our existing client base such as family-owned businesses where we see great opportunity for Michelle to bring additional value to our clients.”
Prior to practicing law, Michelle worked as an account executive for an international bank. “Michelle brings an interesting perspective given her financial background,” said Evelyn V. Moreno, partner and leader of Nixon Peabody’s private clients practice. “We are excited to welcome Michelle to the firm and look forward to working together collaboratively.”
Michelle, who joins Nixon Peabody from Neal Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, earned her J.D., with honors, and LL.M in Taxation from University of Denver. She earned her B.B.A., magna cum laude, from Saint Louis University.
