Dinsmore & Shohl LLP has welcomed commercial litigation partner Kara A. Czanik to its headquarters in Cincinnati. She will focus her practice on consumer finance litigation, as she has done professionally for the last 12 years. Czanik joins Dinsmore from Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP, where she practiced for over 13 years.
Kara represents national banks, mortgage servicers, credit card companies and other financial institutions in a wide variety of cases, including those involving the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
The 2008 financial crisis sparked her interest in this area, and she effectively and efficiently helps clients navigate claims arising from the ever-changing regulatory landscape.
“We’re fortunate to add Kara as our newest partner in Cincinnati,” said Dinsmore commercial litigation practice group co-chair Alan Abes. “She’s a leader in the consumer finance litigation field, and she’ll make our group even stronger.”
Czanik has also successfully litigated complex commercial claims, including unfair competition claims as well as title insurance bad faith claims for financial institutions.
“I came to Dinsmore to join a great team of experienced consumer finance litigators, and to offer my expertise to help our clients.” Czanik said.
Kara is currently a board member for Junior Achievement OKI – Butler and Warren Counties, and a past president of the John W. Peck Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Czanik earned her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and her B.A. in political science from Wittenberg University in Springfield.
