Ulmer & Berne LLP announces the addition of seasoned intellectual property attorney Paul M. Ulrich as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) & Technology practice. The practice has grown significantly throughout 2014, adding eight new members since January. Mr. Ulrich joins Ulmer & Berne’s Cincinnati office from Dinsmore & Strohl LLP where he was a partner.
Mr. Ulrich’s engineering background and experience in hands-on operations management for a large utility company enable him to provide immediate value to clients. His practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution; patent infringement/litigation; market clearance; validity opinions; patentability studies; licensing; IP due diligence for M&A; and client counseling in intellectual property matters. He is experienced in managing large global patent and trademark portfolios and developing innovative intellectual property strategies for his clients.

Mr. Ulrich’s experience is concentrated in mechanical, electro-mechanical, and light-chemical technologies and innovations. He has extensive experience with consumer products and related packaging technologies; manufacturing and processing equipment; bio-medical devices; robotics; power generators such as wind and natural gas turbines; jet engine propulsion; water filtration; metal coating; coated cables; fiber optic cables and cabling systems; optical sensors; power distribution equipment; marketing databases; and a variety of technologies directed to plastic injection molding, printing, product displays, RFID, plasma treating, semiconductors, and telecommunications.
Mr. Ulrich is among the faculty at The Patent Resources Group and teaches the advanced class, “Crafting and Drafting: Winning Patents.” Also, he is a frequent speaker on the topics of preparation and prosecution and design patents. Mr. Ulrich earned his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law and his B.S., Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Cincinnati.
