BakerHostetler’s Intellectual Property Group has added patent and intellectual property Partner Shannon McCue, who will be resident in the firm’s Cleveland office as a member of the Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science Prosecution team. McCue joins from Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP, where he served as a member of the IP Leadership Council.
McCue has practiced patent and intellectual property law for more than 15 years, and he strives to be as innovative as the clients that he serves. He draws on his experience as a mechanical engineer to advise his clients through all facets of intellectual property law, including procuring and enforcing patent, trademark, copyright, and related rights in industries that include consumer electronics, manufacturers of recreational vehicles, and electrical and mechanical equipment. Clients rely on McCue to develop strategies and protocols that protect the company’s intellectual property inside and outside their organizations in tandem with their business goals. When the need arises, he’s adept at presenting highly technical information in easily understandable language for courts and juries.

McCue joins the firm just a few weeks after fellow IP litigator Allen Sokal was announced as an addition in BakerHostetler’s D.C. office. Together they enhance the growth of the IP group from BakerHostetler’s 2014 combination with national intellectual property firm Woodcock Washburn that added nearly 70 IP attorneys and three new offices to the firm’s national profile. BakerHostetler now has over 160 dedicated IP lawyers with more than 100 lawyers and patent agents registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
As a recognized thought leader in the development and advancement of IP law, McCue co-drafted Model Jury Instructions: Copyright, Trademark, and Trade Dress Litigation. He is a member of the Federal Rules Committee that drafted Patent Local Rules for the Northern District of Ohio, serves as vice president of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association, and is a member of the patent law and copyright law committees for the American Intellectual Property Law Association. McCue graduated with his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law in 1998, and earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1994. He’s recognized by Ohio Super Lawyers in the 2010 and 2011 editions of “Ohio Rising Stars.”
