Womble Bond Dickinson has greatly expanded its business litigation capabilities with the addition of a growing litigation team in Costa Mesa. The team, led by veteran financial services litigation attorney Eric Troutman, gives the firm an experienced and well-credentialed California business litigation presence. The team previously practiced together at Dorsey & Whitney, where Troutman served as Head of that firm’s Costa Mesa office.
Troutman is one of the industry’s leading Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) class action defense lawyers. He and his team have handled more than 600 TCPA cases, with Troutman serving as lead counsel in more than 50 national class actions. Troutman and his team also regularly defend banks and other financial services companies in consumer finance litigation matters.
“Womble is the right platform for our clients—and I would never have made this move otherwise,” Troutman said. “Womble Bond Dickinson is a powerful litigation brand, with more than 200 US litigators and an array of litigation support services. We look forward to bringing these resources to bear for our clients.”
Troutman’s team also will work with Womble Bond Dickinson’s Financial Services Litigation attorneys, guiding clients in disputes involving UCC, TILA, RESPA FCRA, CCRA, CLRA, FDCPA, RFDCPA and FCCPA claims, as well as fraud and bank operations issues.
Chris Jones, Womble Bond Dickinson’s Business Litigation Practice Leader and Member of the Firm’s Management Committee describes Eric’s transition to Womble as a “real coup for the Firm and its efforts in California. Eric and his team materially deepen and are accretive to Womble’s already broad financial services litigation offering. His sophisticated practice is central to any sizable financial services institution and any business that uses telephone based solicitation or collection efforts. With Eric and his team on board, we expect to be better positioned to service our clients nationally, and to further grow our litigation practice in California.”
In January, Womble Bond Dickinson added California offices in Costa Mesa, Los Angeles and Sunnyvale with the addition of the former Blakey Sokoloff Taylor Zafman, LLP. The move added more than 20 intellectual property lawyers and patent agents, complementing the firm’s existing Silicon Valley office in Palo Alto.
“When we expanded in January, we added an outstanding group of Intellectual Property attorneys, but our goal always was to offer additional practice areas,” said Mike Gencarella, Managing Partner of the firm’s California offices. “When the opportunity arose to add a team of the caliber of Eric’s group, we knew we had to act quickly.”
