Akerman Strengthens CFS+ in Dallas with Partner Adam Ragan

Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP today announced the growth of its consumer financial services team with partner Adam Ragan in Dallas. He rejoins the firm’s national Consumer Financial Services, Data and Technology Practice Group (CFS+). Ragan arrives at Akerman from Fox Rothschild LLP in Dallas.

“Adam is a highly respected litigator within the financial services industry and it’s very meaningful having him rejoin the practice group,” said William P. Heller, founder and chair of CFS+. “As we’ve experienced with previous cycles, there’s a steady increase in demand for our team’s support, and we’re grateful for the relationships and reputation we’ve earned over the last 20 plus years. We are growing the practice nationally, in all markets, with lawyers and other professionals willing to match our commitment to exceptional client service.”

Adam represents an array of financial services companies in state and federal litigation, including class actions. He regularly defends financial services providers against individual and class claims brought pursuant to RESPA, TILA, FCRA, FDCPA, and TCPA. Adam defends mortgage lenders, servicers, and other financial services providers against borrower complaints alleging wrongful foreclosure and violations of state statutes and regulations.

Adam rejoins the Dallas office, which just announced the appointment of Matthew Schroeder as the new office managing partner. Matt maintains a national insurance litigation practice while guiding the firm’s local strategy and working to boost its relationships with area civic and business leaders.

Akerman recently launched its Data Centers and Digital Infrastructure Practice with the arrival of James Grice, who serves as its chair, and partner Michael McKinley, both based in Dallas. The national practice, experienced in the many facets—technological, operational, and legal—of financing, planning, building, and operating data centers, is supported by the firm’s significant depth in financial technologies, privacy and cybersecurity, litigation, real estate, environmental, tax, and intellectual property issues, as well as corporate transactions.

CFS+ has been expanding its financial technology, privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance capabilities with numerous hires, including partner Nora Rigby, who joined Akerman after serving almost 10 years in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Office of Regulations, most recently as Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel. She became one of three senior lawyers from the CFPB based in Akerman’s Washington, D.C. office, along with former Senior Counsel Thomas Kearney and former Managing Counsel Eric Goldberg.

Akerman also promoted Christy Hawkins in Dallas to partner and welcomed Emily Cramer, who previously served as corporate counsel for privacy at Match Group in Dallas. Christy and Emily strengthen CFS+’s authentically experienced team supporting clients with privacy and cybersecurity issues, as well as leading international incident responses.
