The Dallas office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues its strategic expansion with the addition of Daniel P. Elms as a shareholder in the firm’s Global Litigation Practice. Elms assists clients with business litigation and arbitration matters, including risk assessment, pre-trial litigation strategy and discovery, as well as trial and post-trial proceedings. He joins Greenberg Traurig from Bell Nunnally & Martin.
“Dan is an exceptional addition to the firm and will advance our capabilities in the complex contract and business torts litigation and arbitration arena,” said Joseph F. Coniglio, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Dallas office. “We are excited to have him be a part of our strategic growth in Dallas and beyond.”
Elms has substantial first-chair trial experience including jury, non-jury, and injunction matters, as well as in AAA, ICC, and FINRA arbitration proceedings. His focus extends to breach of contract claims and business torts, earnout and deferred compensation claims, franchisee and distributor/dealer disputes, financial services and hedge fund litigation, and securities litigation, including broker-dealer and registered representative disputes.
Elms has assisted his clients with, among other matters, obtaining a $1 million judgment for breach of consulting agreement relating to a private investment in public equities transaction; securing a $1.8 million arbitration award for defendant’s breach of oil and gas exploration joint-venture agreement; and obtaining a summary judgment on a $45 million fraud and breach of fiduciary duty claim by investors relating to wind-down of a hedge fund.
“Joining Greenberg Traurig is an opportunity to continue to expand what I can provide to my clients now and in the future. The firm’s award-winning Global Litigation Practice and well-known culture of collaboration were important in my decision to join this team. I look forward to the exciting possibilities ahead,” Elms said.
Elms has earned recognition on D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas and Texas Super Lawyers listings for his business litigation work. He is the Litigation News team editor for the American Bar Association and a former co-editor for the ABA’s Business Torts and Unfair Competition Journal. Elms received his J.D. from Rutgers Law School and a B.S. in Political Science from Texas Tech University.
