Highly Regarded Technology Partner Joins Baker Botts’ Corporate Practice in Dallas

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology, energy and life sciences law firm, announced today that Steve Mann has joined the firm’s Dallas office as a partner in the global Corporate Department. His addition is another step in strengthening the firm’s technology transaction capabilities, expanding its relationships with its extensive technology and life sciences client base. Most recently, Mann was a partner with Winstead in its Corporate, Commercial Transactions & Outsourcing Practice Group.

Mann’s practice focuses on the representation of both public and private companies in a variety of transactional matters, with a particular focus on those relating to technology (including software, licensing, integration, and the development of new technology products and services), data commercialization and analytics, business process and IT outsourcing, and on other complex and cross-border commercial transactions. He has advised clients across a range of industries, including in the acquisition of Airbus commercial aircraft, purchase of offshore drilling rigs and participation in some of the world’s largest data analytics projects.

He also counsels clients in technology and security issues relating to data privacy (including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)) and cybersecurity, including breach preparation and response, data protection, data usage, and cross-border data transfers.

“We are excited to welcome Steve back to our firm. Considering that almost 40% of our revenue is generated from clients in the technology sector, he represents another step in the execution of our strategic plan,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “He has a strong reputation as a leader in complex technology transactions and M&A and will play an instrumental role in strengthening our global Corporate technology capabilities.”

“Steve has developed a sterling reputation in transactions related to all aspects of the technology industry and is highly regarded by peers and clients alike,” said Mike Bengtson, Chair of Baker Botts’ Corporate Department. “His experience, key client relationships and deep expertise in the ever-evolving technology space make him an ideal fit for our firm.”

Mann started his legal career as a corporate lawyer in the Dallas office of Baker Botts and worked on both technology transactions and M&A matters while at the firm.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to Baker Botts,” Mann said. “The firm’s expansive, global platform, and its position as a go-to firm for the most complex and cutting-edge technology matters, is truly a perfect fit for my practice.”

Mann earned a J.D. from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law in 2008. He was selected in 2021 among the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” by D Magazine.

Baker Botts’ Corporate team has gained a top-notch reputation for its role advising clients in the telecommunications, media and computer (hardware and software) service industries in recent years.
