Husch Blackwell welcomes two partners to its Dallas office who are experts in product liability, toxic tort, mass tort and catastrophic injury litigation: Michael John Ramirez and James A. Lowery. Ramirez and Lowery both recently joined the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry team.
Over the past 20 years, Ramirez’s reputation has been built as a relentless advocate for his clients.
His unique experience ranges from serving as a prosecutor, in-house counsel and as a civil trial attorney.
As a prosecutor, Ramirez successfully prosecuted many criminal cases. As in-house counsel, he obtained cost-effective resolution of insurance coverage and professional liability disputes. He also spoke nationally on ethics and legal malpractice.
Today, as a civil trial lawyer in complex civil litigation, clients seek Ramirez’s counsel in toxic tort and product liability matters involving allegations of wrongful death, personal injury, asbestos, premises liability and product liability. Ramirez has tried and resolved cases throughout the country, including notoriously risky jurisdictions.
In his commercial litigation practice, Ramirez maintains a diverse practice and has handled cases involving breach of contract, real estate, fiduciary duty, fraud, legal issues in closely held companies, the Texas Theft Liability Act, tortious interference, insurance, bailment, TCPA, CFAA, computer forensics and discovery, construction defect, and DTPA/warranty claims, among others.
Ramirez is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a peer-selected, invitation-only honorary society comprised of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers, vetted for skills, expertise, and service. He is also a “Texas Super Lawyer” (2003-2006, 2014-2015). Prior to law school, Ramirez served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas – School of Law (1993), where he was the “Chief Articles Editor” on The Review of Litigation and a member of the National Order of Barristers. Ramirez received his B.S., cum laude, in Political Science from the University of Utah (1986).
Lowery developed his litigation and trial practice with a focus on product liability, premises liability, commercial cases and toxic tort. He has tried dozens of multi-million dollar cases to verdict in California, Texas, Illinois, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania.
He successfully tried to verdict several high risk cases on behalf of manufacturers, premises owners, and contractors in product liability and toxic tort lawsuits. Lowery also maintains a significant practice in consulting to the financial community, industry and business, on litigation-related issues.
Lowery is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer-review ranking given. He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America (2013-2015) editions of “Best Lawyers in America” and “Best Lawyers in Texas” (2015) and “Texas Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly magazine (2004-2007).
Lowery previously served for more than four years as lead in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 corporation, supervising that company’s national asbestos, welding rod, and other toxic tort litigation, in addition to working for two other major Dallas law firms. He is a popular conference speaker and presents throughout the U.S. in his areas of expertise. Lowery has several bar admissions including Texas, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania.
