Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome to its Dallas office Matthew E. Yarbrough as a partner and Sam Genovese as an associate in the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. Immediately prior to joining the firm, Yarbrough was managing partner at Yarbrough Cyber Law Group, PLLC; Genovese joins from Squire Patton Boggs.
For over 25 years, Mr. Yarbrough has provided legal expertise in the area of data privacy, cybersecurity, government investigations, and eDiscovery. For the past two years, Mr. Genovese has worked with Mr. Yarbrough on data privacy and cybersecurity matters. Mr. Yarbrough formerly served as a cyber attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in the national Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section program. He led a Cybercrimes and Criminal Intellectual Property Task Force in the Northern District of Texas, where he prosecuted numerous high-profile white-collar criminal cases involving securities, banking, health care, and business fraud schemes. He also helped establish an FBI-sponsored Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory in Dallas to assist investigations of identity theft, internet fraud, and data breaches.
“Matt’s extensive knowledge of cybercrime and digital forensics will immediately be utilized in managing responses to data breaches, facilitating digital forensics investigations, and helping clients interface with federal law enforcement and regulatory officials,” said Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Chair Sean B. Hoar. “We are also pleased that Sam is joining our team – he immediately adds skilled capacity.”
Over the course of his career, Mr. Yarbrough has handled complex civil and criminal cases involving intellectual property, corporate espionage, internal investigations, and financial fraud. He has also appeared on programs such as Nightline and 20/20, and on the CNN and Fox News networks as a cybersecurity expert. He served as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University School of Law where he taught Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, and Trial Advocacy.
“After years of handling complex civil and criminal cyber-related cases, I am excited to join the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team at Lewis Brisbois,” Mr. Yarbrough said. “I am looking forward to working with one of the nation’s most experienced teams in helping clients prepare for and respond to increasingly dangerous and complex cyber attacks.”
“Matt’s unique and impressive experience in data privacy and cybersecurity will transfer perfectly to our national Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team – and Sam’s skills will be a great fit,” said Dallas Managing Partner Christopher C. White. “We are excited to have Matt and Sam join our Dallas office.”
In joining the Lewis Brisbois Rapid Response Team, Messrs. Yarbrough and Genovese bring their unique and varied experience to a group that manages over 1,000 data security incidents annually and help the team continue to expand its national presence.
“Matt provides a calm, confident approach to solving complex problems, and Sam mirrors that approach,” Mr. Hoar said. “They will be great additions to our team.”
