Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Craig A. Lackey has joined the firm’s Corporate practice as a partner in the Dallas office, where he will focus his work on consumer lending-based financial transactions and restructurings.
For the past 27 years, Craig has held in-house positions at various consumer finance companies, most recently serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer of Caliber Home Loans, Inc., a residential mortgage banking company. Craig also has extensive experience working on consumer finance regulatory and compliance issues and managing complex litigation.
“The 2008 financial crisis and the subsequent origination of the Consumer Financial Services Bureau through the Dodd-Frank Act placed even more scrutiny on the already highly regulated consumer finance sector,” said Ronald Sarubbi, co-chair of the firm’s Financial Transactions & Restructuring practice. “As Perkins Coie continues to expand its consumer finance practice, Craig’s firsthand experience dealing with regulatory compliance issues will make him a valuable asset to our team.”
Craig’s regulatory compliance work consists of servicing reviews and examination preparations for companies subject to Consumer Financial Services Bureau (CFPB) and state examinations, advising on issues arising with whole loan and mortgage servicing rights purchase and sale agreements, and assisting with mergers and acquisitions of mortgage banking companies. He also handles investigations, examinations and enforcement actions initiated by state and federal agencies, and manages litigation related to loan origination and servicing of residential mortgage loans.
“Craig’s strong ties with Perkins Coie dates back 20 years, when he worked in our Los Angeles office. We’re excited to welcome him back,” said Steve Smith, Office Managing Partner in the firm’s Dallas office. “His entrepreneurial spirit and robust connections in the Dallas area will have a significant impact on our booming consumer finance practice.”
Craig received his B.A. from St. Louis University and his J.D. from Washington University School of Law.
