The arrival of Stark, a former partner at K&L Gates in Dallas, brings the total number of Reed Smith lawyers in Dallas to 32.
“Nigel adds to our top-level transactional capability in Dallas as we build out a strong corporate practice,” said James Tandler, Chair, U.S. Corporate Group and Co-Chair, Global Corporate Group. “His technology transactions and outsourcing practice will make him a valuable asset to many of our clients in a variety of industries and increases our core strength in the Dallas technology sector.”
Stark’s practice focuses on helping companies institute new technologies that bring greater efficiency to their core business and better manage their operating costs. Part of that solution includes outsourcing some components of their business. He represents and negotiates on behalf of both customers and vendors in an array of commercial and non-commercial technology-related transactions. In addition, he also advises clients in joint-venture and co-development arrangements and works with clients in the creation of enterprise-wide policies and strategies regarding emerging technologies.
“I was attracted to Reed Smith because it is committed to and recognizes the value of building out a technology and outsourcing team at the firm, enabling us to better support different clients in a broad range of Industries,” Stark said. “I’m also excited to join a new and growing office with a firm that has a sterling reputation globally in the industries where I do most of my work, including consumer financial services, healthcare and energy.”
Stark works closely on a day-to-day basis representing companies in their commercial sourcing, including counseling them in managing the life cycle of their contracts to ensure they can quickly and efficiently in-source or out-source the services, products, supplies, resources, and technology they need to more efficiently and profitably run their business or to sell their products and services to their existing customers.
Before joining K&L Gates in 2013, Stark was an associate at Faegre Baker Daniels from 2007 to 2013. He earned his J.D. with honors in 2007 from The University of Texas School of Law. In 2019, Chambers USA named him a Leading Texas Technology Outsourcing Lawyer, and each year since 2017, he has been named a Next Generation Lawyer by Legal 500.
“The capabilities that Nigel brings to the Dallas office and the firm are industry agnostic and will benefit a broad range of our clients,” said Bobby Majumder, co-managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office. “He has a strong local presence and a diverse client base, as well as significant experience handling transactions for clients in many of the key regulated industries where our firm has a real focus.”
Stark is the second corporate attorney to join Reed Smith’s Dallas office in the past four months. Chauncey M. Lane came aboard in mid-November from the Dallas office of Husch Blackwell. Other recent lateral partners in Dallas include Elizabeth Brandon in the Global Commercial Disputes Group; Paulo McKeeby and Michael Correll in the Labor & Employment Practice; and Jorge Gutierrez in the Energy & Natural Resources Group.
