The global law firm Jones Day announces that Richard Salgado has returned to the Firm as a Business & Tort Litigation partner in its Dallas Office. Mr. Salgado had previously been an associate in Jones Day’s Issues & Appeals Practice and joins after most recently practicing at Dentons in Dallas.

Mr. Salgado represents defendants in a wide range of complex commercial, intellectual property, and regulatory litigation at the trial court level. He has successfully tried numerous jury and bench trials and disposed of many more cases on summary judgment before trial or through arbitration.

“Richard returns to Jones Day with a very impressive track record as a litigator,” said Stephanie Parker, co-leader of Jones Day’s Business & Tort Litigation Practice. “His successes across numerous industries and jurisdictions make him a very valuable addition to our team, and we are very happy that he is joining us.”

Recently Mr. Salgado won a complete victory on summary judgment for a healthcare client in a case that began as a $600 million class action alleging antitrust and Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act claims. His additional recent noteworthy client representations include the reversal of a multimillion-dollar jury verdict on claims for interference with contract and unjust enrichment; a complete victory in international arbitration in a multimillion dollar partnership dispute, prevailing on all claims, defeating all counterclaims, and obtaining a multimillion-dollar award, attorney fees, and entry of permanent injunction; and a favorable settlement on eve of a trial, resolving partnership and contract disputes, on behalf of a multinational company.

“Richard’s wide range of litigation experience and his success at the appellate level make him an excellent addition to our team,” said Hilda Galvan, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Dallas Office. “His arrival sends a very clear message that Jones Day remains committed to providing our clients access to the premier legal talent in the region. I enthusiastically welcome him back to our Firm, and I look forward to working with him again.”

On appeal, Mr. Salgado has obtained successful outcomes in each of the 13 federal circuits (and has personally presented oral argument in seven of those circuits), as well as in numerous state appellate courts nationwide. Many of his appellate wins have been extensively covered by Law360, American Lawyer, and other publications, including a win in the Second Circuit against the Internal Revenue Service that national commentators called “one of the most favorable privilege decisions in years” and “a ruling that will elate companies and financial institutions that consult on legal issues … that have financial consequences.”

A member of the Dallas Bar Association, the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, Mr. Salgado was recognized by Texas Lawyer magazine as a Diversity and Inclusion Champion in the state in 2019 and as one of 20 “Lawyers on the Rise” in the state in 2016. He has been continually named a “Texas Rising Star” by Texas Monthly since 2011. Mr. Salgado teaches general intellectual property, trademark, and trade secret law as an adjunct law professor at UNT Dallas College of Law.
