Tax Attorney James Browne Joins Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas Office

Barnes & Thornburg LLP has added James Browne to its Dallas office as a partner in the Corporate Department.

Browne has more than 35 years of experience in matters involving federal, state and foreign taxes, including domestic and international business transactions. He is a Certified Public Accountant and advises clients on complex tax and financing issues across a range of industries such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing, real estate and financial services.

Working with global companies with operations across various jurisdictions, Browne has counseled sellers and purchasers on the tax and financing aspects of business acquisitions involving both strategic and financial purchasers, as well as the reorganizations of corporate and partnership entities. He has prepared tax disclosures for debt and equity offering documents involving a variety of transactions, including oil and gas exploration and development and alternative energy.

“Not only does Jim bring deep knowledge of U.S. and foreign tax issues, he brings expertise in the energy and private equity sectors: two of the fastest growing legal markets in Texas,” said Mark Bayer, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas office. “His arrival is also the latest example of our success in driving growth with hires in very strategic areas that align with the needs of our clients.”
He arrives from Strasburger & Price LLP and rejoins his former colleague John Willding, also a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department. Earlier in his career, Browne served as chief tax officer for several large publicly traded multinational companies and was also a partner at a “Big 4” accounting firm.

Browne received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law and his B.B.A from the University of Michigan. He is admitted to practice in the State of Texas and before the U.S. Tax Court.
