Hogan Lovells today announced the addition of Scot Anderson as a partner and David Brody as of counsel in the Energy and Natural Resources practice in the Denver office. Anderson joins from Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP and Brody arrives from Patton Boggs LLP.
Anderson and Brody bring extensive experience advising oil and gas, mining, and natural resources companies operating throughout the Rocky Mountain region and across the globe in a wide range of transactional, regulatory, operational, and project development matters. Anderson’s practice focuses on commercial transactions, dispute resolution, and project development in the mining, oil and gas, and energy industries. Brody represents oil and gas producers, pipeline companies, and service companies, in a range of domestic and international upstream and midstream oil and gas transactions, all related operational issues and agreements, and dispute resolution.
The addition of Anderson and Brody comes on the heels of Jennifer Biever’s recent promotion to partner in the Energy and Natural Resources practice in Denver. In addition to counseling oil and gas companies, Biever works with renewable energy companies and other development clients on natural resource, land use, environmental, siting, and regulatory issues.

About the lawyers
Scot Anderson routinely counsels clients in the coal and hard rock mining and oil and gas industries on complex transactions, including the formation of new joint ventures, the divestiture of natural resources projects, and the acquisition of leases and reserves. His practice also focuses on providing regulatory advice and dispute resolution, including representing clients in administrative proceedings and in federal and state courts. With extensive experience in issues related to mineral development of federal public lands, Anderson has also represented several clients with projects on Indian lands. He also works on project development matters in countries around the world.
Earlier in his career, Anderson spent nearly a decade with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). He worked for ARCO Coal Company in Denver and for ARCO British Limited in England. His coal work included advice on coal sales and transportation contracts, asset acquisition and divestiture, and permitting and compliance. He also advised on issues related to potential mine acquisitions in China, South America, and Australia. In England, he represented ARCO in oil and gas transactions, gas sales, and operational matters in the North Sea, and throughout Europe and North Africa
Anderson earned a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado; a J.D., summa cum laude, and a M.A. from the University of Iowa; and a B.A., cum laude, from Augustana College. He is a trustee of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and a member of the Colorado Mining Association and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
David Brody focuses his practice on upstream and midstream oil and gas transactions and strategic advice for major and independent oil and gas producers, pipeline companies, and service companies, both domestically and internationally. He has extensive experience representing oil and gas clients in the Rocky Mountain region, as well as in Europe, Iraq, Australia, South Africa, and other countries throughout the world.
Brody has experience in all aspects of domestic and international oil and gas transactions, exploration and production operations, gas gathering, transportation, sales, and related transactions, as well as in a wide variety of legislative and regulatory issues affecting the oil and gas industry.
Prior to joining Patton Boggs, Brody was in-house counsel at Amoco Corporation for 23 years, where he focused on acquisitions, divestments, and other complex transactions, and managed major litigation.
Brody received a J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law and a B.S. from the University of Colorado. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, the Colorado Oil and Gas Association, the Western Energy Alliance, and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
Jennifer Biever counsels oil and gas companies, renewable energy companies, mining, and other development clients with natural resource, land use, environmental, siting, and regulatory issues. She assists in obtaining requisite permits and approvals, development of environmental compliance strategies, and engagement on federal resource management activities.
Biever has taken lead roles in several state rulemakings on matters impacting the oil and gas industry. She routinely works with clients on permitting and enforcement matters in front of state and federal agencies, including the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Air Pollution Control Division and Water Quality Control Division. Biever received a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School; a M.S. from the University of Michigan; and a B.A. from Duke University.
