Faegre Baker Daniels has successfully advised Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR) on issuance of a Radioactive Materials License for the company’s Piñon Ridge Mill facility. Once constructed, Piñon Ridge will be the first new uranium mill in the United States in over 30 years.
FaegreBD’s team, comprised of partners Jim Spaanstra and Trip DeMuth, counsel Olivia Lucas, associate Caroline Lee and paralegal Paula Moore, worked closely with Energy Fuels and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on issuance of the License, which was first applied for and granted in March 2011.
After a lawsuit was filed by a private organization to block the license, FaegreBD’s energy team worked with Energy Fuels to navigate the administrative hearing and appeals process. These efforts culminated in the re-issuance of the License on April 25, 2013, giving Energy Fuels the appropriate documentation to move forward with construction of the Piñon Ridge Mill. Once operational, the Piñon Ridge Mill facility will generate 500 tons of uranium/vanadium per day.
Energy Fuels is America’s largest conventional uranium producer, supplying approximately 25% of the Uranium produced in the U.S., and is also a significant producer of vanadium. The company also operates the White Mesa Mill, which is the only conventional uranium mill currently operating in the U.S. A link to Energy Fuels’ news release related to the Pinon Ridge Mill facility is available here.
